My Experience

My Academic Career

George Washington University

At GWU, I am in my final semester of the M.A in International Affairs Program, where I am concentrating in international law and organizations. As a part of this program, I was awarded a Foreign Language and Area Fellowship for East Asia, which allowed me to continue learning Japanese. I was also awarded the highly competitive Freeman Grant as well as being a recipient of the Knowledge in Action Career Fund, both of which allowed me to live and work in Japan for the summer of 2024.

I am also in the process of writing my Master's thesis for the State Department, which focuses on comparing the stabilization and development policies and priorities of the United States, Japan, South Korea, and Australia.

Occidental College

At Occidental College, I double-majored in Diplomacy and World Affairs and East Asian Studies and minored in Japanese Studies and Linguistics.

Interesting courses I've taken:

My thesis for Diplomacy and World Affairs focused on analyzing the success of United Nations peacekeeping missions in East Timor, and establishing the extent to which ASEAN Member-States participated. My thesis for East Asian Studies focused on describing the goals, successes and failures of the Metabolist movement - a school of architecture which arose in post-World War II Japan

My Professional Career

Research Intern | Makoto Usami Laboratory

May 2024 - September 2024 | Kyoto, Japan

As an intern at the Makoto Usami Environmental Policy Laboratory in Kyoto, Japan, I designed and conducted empirical research on the spread of anti-ecocide laws in Asia as well as their impacts. I also assisted the lab's administrative lead in coordinating, organizing, and conducting two summer research seminars featuring 30+ researchers in attendance each. Lastly, I presented my own research progress at these seminars and incorporated feedback into my final research project deliverable.

Intern | White House Council on Environmental Quality

August 2023 - December 2023 | Washington, DC

In this role, I worked to develop strategic communications strategies for public engagement on multiple key environmental issues, in line with national priorities, and delivered the recommendations to White House senior staff. I also researched, tracked, and monitored the funding, progress, and status of federal agency programs that were enacted under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), ultimately contributing a dataset published by the White House in January 2025. Lastly, I assisted in coordinating and organizing inter-agency and public meetings, prepared memos summarizing the topics discussed, and delivered them to senior staff.

Political/Communications Intern | Permanent Mission of the United Kingdom to the United Nations

August 2022 - December 2022 | New York, New York

In this role, I created and executed a strategic communications plan for the General Assembly’s Third Committee which was then presented to and approved by the Permanent Representative of the Mission. I also assisted in drafting speeches and policy recommendations on conflict in Myanmar, in line with UK national priorities, for use in the United Nations Security Council. Lastly, I attended Security Council meetings and created and distributed to the office formal summaries of statements given, as well as assisted in organizing bilateral and multilateral diplomatic meetings between the United Kingdom and various governmental and non-governmental organizations.

Legislative Intern | Office of U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein

August 2021 - December 2021 | Los Angeles, CA

In this role, assisted constituents in starting casework and leaving formal comments, and tracked ongoing casework in order to ensure sufficient progress was made. I also assisted in office administration, compiling relevant news articles and submitting them to the Senator and other staff members on a daily basis as well as managing the office's public communications.

Clerical/Administrative Intern | Balisok & Associates

May - September 2018 | Los Angeles, CA

As an Administrative/Clerical Intern at Balisok & Associates Law, I met directly with potential clients in order to evaluate and discuss their cases. I attended depositions, court proceedings, and inter-firm meetings in order to prepare summaries of the topics discussed for the head partner of the firm. I also performed case research, clerical work, and managed office communications on a daily basis.
